Collect Urine PCR

How to Collect…a Urine Sample for  PCR Testing.

Sample Collection Procedure

(1) When to collect the sample?
The ideal time is when you first get up in the morning and pass urine. Alternatively the sample can be collected during the day, AS LONG as you wait at least 2 hours after you last passed urine.

(2) How to collect the sample?
You need to collect the first part of your urine stream only – NOT the whole lot. Begin passing urine into the jar and then take the jar away from the flow after you have about a finger width in the bottom of the jar. If you make a mistake then simply empty the jar into your toilet, wait at least another 2 hours and then try again.

(3) What to do with the sample once you’ve collected it?
After collecting the sample, replace the lid and write your full name and date of birth on the outside of the jar, as well as your doctors name. Immediately take the sample to the nearest Perth Medical Laboratories Collection Centre OR return to your doctors surgery. If a delay is unavoidable, then you must keep your sample cold (frozen is better) and then contact the lab for advice on 08.9433 5696.
